Easter Walk for Water
31st March 2018
We have many Easter traditions at The New School: the Easter Bunny insists on hiding brightly wrapped mini-chocolate eggs around the garden for the children to seek out; an Eggshibition of imaginatively decorated eggs is also an annual part of our celebrations.
This year though, everyone finished the spring term wearing blue, and their Easter bonnets took on a watery theme. Easter had coincided with World Water Week.
Our second 'Walk for Water' provided our children and staff with another opportunity to walk in the shoes of those people around the world who have no choice but to travel on foot each day in order to access water. The walk also raised money for WaterAid, a charity which has been close to the school's heart for a few years now. The sense of community was just fantastic, with parents and grandparents joining children of all ages, as they aimed to match the 6 kilometres which the average person walks each day to reach safe drinking water.
The amount raised by the walk, and by various events and initiatives throughout the week, will be announced after the Easter holidays.
We hope it goes some way towards helping to improve water access for others.
